Yakuza: Like a Dragon reinvented the iconic franchise by introducing turn-based RPG mechanics and a compelling squad dynamic around protagonist Ichiban Kasuga. Building a balanced team is essential for overcoming tough battles in Ijincho and beyond. Players who follow daily gaming news often look for effective strategies to assemble their ideal combat crew efficiently.
Early Story Companions: Yu Namba and Koichi Adachi
Your journey begins with immediate support from key figures in the story. Koichi Adachi joins during the early chapters as a durable tank character who can absorb heavy hits and disrupt enemy actions. Shortly after, Yu Namba joins the team, providing essential area-of-effect elemental attacks and valuable healing skills.
These two allies form the core foundation of your party during the opening hours of the campaign. Progressing main story quests automatically ensures both characters remain in your roster without requiring special unlock conditions.
Core Squad Additions: Saeko Mukoda and Joon-gi Han
Saeko Mukoda joins the group during Chapter 5, bringing versatile support abilities and agility to your team formation. Her default Hostess job offers great crowd control and debuff options that turn the tide in long boss encounters. She automatically becomes a permanent member as part of the main narrative progression.
In Chapter 10, Joon-gi Han joins your roster, offering unmatched speed and multi-hit gunplay attacks. His rapid turn order allows players to land critical hits and eliminate weak targets before enemies can take action.
Late-Game Powerhouses: Tianyou Zhao and Eri Kamataki
Tianyou Zhao steps into the spotlight during Chapter 11, equipping powerful slashing damage and heavy physical strikes. His high damage output makes him a prime choice for tackling high-level encounters in late-game dungeons.
Eri Kamataki is the only optional party member in the game, recruited through the Business Management minigame. Players must unlock the minigame in Chapter 5 and reach top-100 company ranking to recruit her as a powerful Ninja user.
